Frenchie & George is an electro-acoustic project of americana songs cooked on a bed of various Europeans and north African elements.The original nucleus combined the urban folk roots of Philadelphia where George  grew up,  with the French multicultural accents that infused Michel’s(aka Frenchy) style while touring in various countries in Europe while based in Paris.

The group mixes George’s original creations and pop hits. Additional guest musicians make this live  project an ever changing show.

Dave Desmelik has established himself as an accomplished and rising singer/songwriter whose music might best be described as Americana or Alt/Country. Drawing upon influences from country to bluegrass to blues to rock n’ roll, Desmelik writes and performs a unique blend of songs.

Growing up in Alpharetta, Georgia, music affected Dave early. He started playing bass guitar in his high school jazz band, as well as cello in his high school orchestra, while also learning the guitar. Playing guitar, writing music, and singing songs became a part of Dave’s life, but it wasn’t until he moved to Flagstaff, Arizona that his songwriting would really take hold. During his time in Arizona, Dave played and wrote songs with such acts as The John Treitor Band, Big Jim and the Twins, and Onus B. Johnson. Onus B Johnson has released two CDs, “Johnson Family Jewels” (1998) and “Box of Moonlight” (2000) on which Dave’s songwriting is a key ingredient. Dave has released six independent CDs, “Move On” (1998), “Have Another” (2001), “Afterthoughts” (2003), “When Your Eyes Are Closed” (2005), “Unheard Of” (2007) and “Onlooker” (2009).

Dave returned to his southeastern roots in 2003, and is currently living in western North Carolina, where he has been performing regionally as a solo artist and with his band. At the present time, Dave Desmelik continues to write songs and play music that is consistent and identifiable to his growing fan base.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. This is usually the premise of most rock tribute acts – an art form that has exploded into pop culture by providing a close-up, just-like-the-real-thing experience of a rock show without the excessive ticket prices.

Asheville’s Custard Pie, a tribute to Led Zeppelin, pays homage to the long-standing lords of rock without compromising their own individual identities – no small feat considering Zeppelin’s far-reaching fame.

“We enjoy this band and just want to have a great time doing it,” says Custard Pie guitarist Aaron “Woody” Wood (founder of Hollywood Red and formerly of the hot band the Blue Rags). “We want to pay respectful tribute, but sometimes I’ve just gotta say ‘Hey, Mr. Jimmy Page, I love the way you play guitar, but I’m gonna do it this way.”

Custard Pie was the brainchild of bassist David Connor Jones. Jones approached Wood last summer about putting together a Zeppelin tribute act. Vocalist Rhett Thurman (formerly of Menage) and drummer Jamie Stirling (of the Merle and Drug Money) came on board soon after. A Custard Pie set list has all of the hallmarks of a classic Zeppelin set, plus the band’s Web site promises that they will eventually learn the entire catalog.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Wood admits. “When I listen to Led Zeppelin, or any band that sent a lot of ripples out, (I) hear the hardship that these people went through, what they were influenced by, and how they made their own music (from it) – that’s what drives me and pushes me (with my own music).”

Custard Pie and its members have been sending out their own ripples, at least regionally. In the short time that the group has been together, they’ve been packing area clubs and taking no prisoners.

“I personally think that Jimmy Page is a hell of a songwriter,” Wood says. “His compositions and arrangements are fun to play – they’re not the most difficult in the world … his playing has a lot of soul and spirit to it.”

Jen Worthen, otherwise known as ‘Jen Wo’ is a lover of life and singin’ tunes. Nothing warms her heart more, and she is happy to share original folky stuff that she began writing circa 1998…with whomever cares to listen! She is a music therapist and counselor by profession, but more importantly desires to share a message of love.

Peace Jones are an Asheville NC based quartet, featuring a front man who plays numerous instruments–most notably, the flute.     The band is well known in the region for stewing elements of funk, indie-hop, rootsy progressive tinged rock and ‘blanc’ reggae into a completely original sound.

The band first played their fledgling shows in 2004 around the Asheville area and have since risen to become a favorite among the regional bar and small festival circuit for their concert quality shows.  The group’s mission of ‘jonesing for peace’ has exposed them to a wide and prestigious slice of the WNC music community.  Their two live appearances on WNCW’s 88.7 radio station, as well as an appearance on CMT’s “Big Break,” a 2007 award for People’s Choice at the Riverlink/105.9 Battle of the Bands, their appearance on Asheville’s 105.9 “Local Licks,” as well as a feature in Asheville’s “The Laurel” magazine are just a few examples.

Their 2006 release of their first full-length CD, “Down to the Bone,” found a strong audience and following on radio and internet, and their live shows have grown into intense and high energy performances, often times recalling classic rock, funk and reggae as well as exploring their own original songs.  Their moniker of “Flutes, Rock, Reggae,” riffing off of Bob Marley’s classic song, isn’t a stretch at all.

From wild-eyed flautist / composer / guitarist Paul DeCirce’s inauspicious beginnings as a busker on the streets of Asheville, to his joining many regional groups as a drummer to finally fronting his own project in Peace Jones–well, Paul’s story is an earful!  His carefully crafted positive lyrics mixed with fun, quirky images have been interesting PJ’s growing fanbase.  Their strong internet presence and constant commitment to regional causes have gained PJ a consistently growing group of fans.

DeCirce is joined by Eric Ciborski on keyboards, whose funky barrel house style came to PJ via Katrina-battered New Orleans.  Greg Terhune on bass is a seasoned pro who worked among the finest in Dallas, and drummer Todd Omley brought up his swampy-funk style from Tallahassee FL.  Together this unit explores all sorts of different sonic templates — all geared to move your heart AND your bootie!
